Removing Annoying Adware From Your Computer

Adware is one of those intrusive things that seems to have just "happened". Of course, early computers weren't often connected to the internet so the chance for annoying Adware to appear was a lot less. Unless you had the misfortune to use an infected floppy disk, you were probably OK.

Then came the turn of pop-up adverts but with the advent of pop-up blockers the adware companies have had to resort to other ways to get our attention. If most people block pop-up adverts most of the time, what's the point in using them?

Some pop-up adverts are still unblockable - they just appear on your screen, sometimes below your current browser window, sometimes occupying the full screen. Most times you can just click the "close" button, but it's still annoying. After all, why should anyone have the right to take you away from the current web page you're viewing? It's the internet equivalent of cold calling on the telephone and is enough to make you growl!

Adware gets worse when it starts to slow down your computer. The most intrusive is difficult to uninstall, such as programs that display random adverts and crash your browser in the process.

If you know exactly when the Adware installed itself, you may be able to get away with doing a Windows System Restore to a point in time before the Adware affected your computer. Always assuming that the Adware didn't install itself with another program that you actually wanted.

Sometimes you can get remove Adware by paying an upgrade fee. Browsers like Opera work this way - you can have a free copy, supported by advertising, or you can pay a small fee and get rid of the adverts. Or you can change to an alternative program that doesn't inundate you with adverts - this is easy with a web browser but may be more difficult with a more specialist application.

The next step in Adware removal is to do a search on the web for instructions. If you've been infected by a fairly common piece of software, this can be a viable option. But it still frequently involves delving around in the Windows registry, which is a dark and scary place (even to some geeks) and if you get something wrong you can destabilize your computer further.

Alternatively, you can get a piece of software to do the hard work for you. This has the advantage that - providing the software has been programmed correctly - it should be reliable and a simple process. Adware removal software is available free or fairly cheap. The free programs like Spybot Search and Destroy work well but you usually have to remember to run them.

If you've got more than enough things to remember already, it's worth spending a few dollars on a program that will work away in the background of your computer in much the same way as your anti-virus software does. Incidentallt the only reason I can think of as to why most of the anti-virus companies don't check for Adware as well is that they can sell us another program. But that's life.

Windows Registry - Safe Ways To Speed Your Computer

When Windows first started out, programs stored pretty much everything they needed in the same folder as the program. The files were simple text files, called "ini" files. They contained all sorts of information, from the last files you opened to color choices and much more. The big advantage of this was that when you changed computers you could usually get away with copying a program's folder across to the new machine and the program would still run. And if you ran into problems with a program, you could almost always solve them by checking the contents of their ini file.

Then came the Windows Registry.

It was supposed to make life simpler. One central repository to store everything vital about your computer. Everything you ever need to know about your machine is stored there - software, hardware, applications, settings, hardware drivers, helper files, where that window was when you last opened it and whether it should open there again.

This means that the Registry is good in theory.

In practice, it's not always as easy. Much the same as mending your car used to be simple, now it takes more computing power than it did to land on the moon.

Entries get stored there but not removed when they are no longer needed.

Because it's near enough incomprehensible to real people, nasty programs can hide details in the Registry. Programs like viruses, adware and spyware. Not to mention keystroke loggers and other nasties.

When the registry gets too full with stuff it doesn't need, your computer starts to slow down with all the extra (unnecessary) workload. Booting up takes longer. Launching simple programs gives you enough time to brew a fresh coffee. Closing down your PC is just as bad.

The most radical way to sort this out is to completely re-install everything on your computer from scratch. But assuming you live in the real world or have nothing better to do for the next couple days, this likely isn't a viable option.

Next up, if you're brave, is by using the Regedit software that comes with Windows. Unless you're manually removing something that you installed when you wrote a program, this really isn't recommended. Type in or delete the wrong thing and your computer could become more unstable. Sure, try it on a machine belonging to an enemy (when they're not looking, of course) or a computer you no longer use. But messing with the registry by hand on your regular computer is not something to be undertaken lightly, if at all.

Far and away the best way of cleaning up your registry and speeding up your computer is to use software specifically designed for the purpose. There are plenty of programs around and your choice is likely to be dictated by the one you come across first - near enough all modern registry cleaner programs work efficiently and will get your computer back up to its full speed quickly and without any of the worries associated with tackling registry entries manually.

How To Begin A Computer Programmer Career Without A College Degree

In this article I am going to talk about how to learn computer programming and become an expert programmer without having formal college or computer science education. This will mean a lot to you if you have ever considered beginning a programming career only to realize that you just can not afford to invest the time or money it will cost you to get a formal computer science degree. However, just bear in mind that you are not alone in wanting to start your computer programmer career by studying at home in your spare time. Actually a significant proportion of computer programmers are self taught. What everyone who has started a programming career outside the confines of college have in common is that they all focused on becoming as good as or even better than those who attended college. If they felt dis-advantaged in the beginning, they ignored that and focused on sharpening their technical skills until they became expert, highly skilled and competent programmers.

What Are Employers Really Looking For? Employers are impressed by your technical mastery of computer programming more than anything else. Yes, you can become a programmer by learning programming skills in college but keep this at the back of your mind that computer science degrees and other formal methods of learning programming is only a means to an end. So whether you study programming by self-learning and home study courses or you learn programming in college, you will end up with the same up opportunities and challenges including editing your resume for specific software developer jobs, preparing for technical interviews, job hunting and developing good quality, reliably computer programs on time and under budget.

Learning Computer Programming Is The Right Decision One of the best kept secrets in computer programming is that you can gain real-world programming experience without having even having a programming job. When I stumbled upon this secret more than 10 years ago, I realized that I could simply buy a computer or laptop, hook it up to the internet and learn any programming skill, language or technology and get a good job except if I wanted to work with mainframes, satellites and some expensive to buy enterprise software packages. I realized that even if I had to pay for some training packages, buy books or take programming courses, my total cost of training, total learning time and learning curve will be a fraction of what it will be if I opted for other high-paying careers including law, medicine and business management.

How To Begin Your Programming Career Without A College Degree If you have taken the time to learn programming languages and you are ready to find a programming job without a computer science degree or going to college do this and you will be successful. Improve your resume until it starts getting serious attention when you sending it out. Develop your technical presentation skills because college or not, you are going to be taking a lot of interviews and selling your skills and expertise to senior software developers and software managers. Gain a lot of serious, on the job programming experience in new software development languages. Stay away from legacy programming languages, especially the sort that used to be popular 10 to 20 years ago but now hang around like dinosaurs and dead weights in today's software developer teams. If you work on these areas, your technical skills, job experience, programming resume and interviewing skills you will be able to ace your programming interview and land the job you want despite not having a formal software development degree.

So, Where Does This Leave You? This leaves you without an excuse for not taking action. I am granting you the liberty to pursue your passion, your dream and your personal excellence to learn or master computer programming. As a software developer mentor, IT Career Coach and Contract Programmer, I have worked with people who overcame all sorts of personal situations, handicaps and obstacles to begin their software developer career. On my blog at www.IT-Career-Coach.NET, I coach, mentor and train individuals who want to transition to a software developer career or become an expert computer programmer. From my personal experience and observation helping programmers from all over the world succeed in software development professions, your success in programming boils down to how skilled you are at software development and how much experience you have in solving real-world problems. If you gain a lot of practical programming skills and knowledge your software developer career will go into overdrive. How To Become A Video Game Tester In 4 Easy Steps

Think paid video game testing is a myth? Well, think again. Believe it or not, video game testers get paid extremely well to test the newest and most technologically advanced games. Many of them even get to do so from the comfort of their own home, if you can believe that.

"Do all of these game testers have college degrees from established schools?" Nope. Most of them started game testing right out of high school, and they did so just by getting out there and taking it one step at a time. If you'd like to get started in video gaming testing, read and follow the simple steps below.

Step One: Know That Being a Video Game Tester is A Career, Not A Hobby

If you want to be a professional video game tester, you have to realize that it isn't a weekend hobby that you can do whenever your in the mood. You will be required to work and meet deadlines set by your employer. Although you may be working from home, you are still required to do your job in a professional manner. If you conduct yourself professionally and treat video game testing like an actual job instead of just a fantasy where you get to do what you please, you will be much more successful with your game testing career.

Step Two: If You Want To Be a Game Tester, You Have To Get Yourself Out There

The simple fact in the matter is that game companies do not actively list "video game tester job" openings in the paper. If they did, they would be swamped by would-be testers who don't know the first thing about testing. So, instead of merely glancing at the paper from time to time, actually head to the companies and developers and apply for a testing job.

When you apply for a job, don't be ashamed to brag about your expertise with video games. However, be sure that all bragging is done in a professional manner; otherwise, the interviewer might be turned off. In short, just do whatever you can to convince them that you would be a great addition to their video game tester "roster".

If there is one thing to remember in this industry, it's this; Experience is Everything!

Step Three: Video Game Tester Jobs Must Be Completed As Specified

Any instructions given to you by your employer, in this case a game developer, must be followed to the letter. Make sure you know precisely what information the developers want, as well as any feedback that they require.

Anything you write down or report on must be clearly legible and easily understood. The developers/programmers rely on your reports to find and fix bugs & glitches; so if your writing looks like chicken scratch and your grammar is similar to the grammar of a non-English speaking immigrant, you probably won't last long as a game tester.

Whatever the company asks of you, do it and don't ask too many questions. The more compliant you are and the more you work, the more video game tester jobs they will ultimately hand you. Also, it is imperative that you meet all specified deadlines; so, be sure to send your work in on time, every time.

Step 4: Don't Stop After One Video Game Tester Job, Keep Going!

Once you get and complete your first video game testing job, don't sit around and stare at your check thinking "Wow, I did it". Instead, get right back out there and apply for more testing jobs.

The company you did the job for, if satisfied with your reports, will probably offer you another testing job right after that one. If they don't, well, you could always use them as a reference for your next and future video game testing jobs.

Remember, you have already landed and completed your first game testing job; so, the hard part is pretty much over. Now, all you have to do is rinse and repeat and you will be on your way to a very successful video game tester career.

Car Laptop Mount - Car Desks To Fit Any Make of Vehicle

Car laptop desks are now available to fit most cars, you will not have to worry about whether the mount you were thinking of would fit your car or not. Whether you have a GMC SUV or Van or a Sable, Taurus, a Sebring it would make no difference. Since car laptop mounts are now becoming so popular, it seems commercial sense to market such a laptop desk for all cars.

Not that it would make much difference to you right now, of course, but it might in two or three years time when you changed cars and wasn't too keen on purchasing a new laptop desk for your new car. If you had a mount that fitted most cars, you would likely be able to move your desk to your new car without leaving a trace on the old. That is only if you had a model of laptop desk that didn't need drilling to fit, however, since otherwise your old car would have holes in the floor!

Many people are starting to mount lap tops in their car or suv now, because not only does it give them a means of finding information, but also the bit of one-upmanship that those with the original car phones had. Now it is the car computer!

Most however are professionals, especially truck drivers, but also some van or delivery drivers that need to have two-way contact with their office in order to download, or even just view, price lists, drawings and other information required when visiting clients and places such as commercial sites. The bulk of these, however, use heavier duty truck desks that are more rugged than those used in cars.

Car computer use by individuals that use laptop mounts professionally include salespersons that need instant access to prices and stock, service personnel and virtually any professional that is mobile. Even company executives traveling to and from airports need contact with their offices. Computers can provide instant visual information and reports that other non-visual communications techniques cannot provide. Access to email and more.

In such cases the computer car mount is crucial in providing protection to their laptops while driving regardless of the terrain. When crossing construction or rough situations, or even a small river, in a vehicle it is not always possible to know what you are driving over, and your laptop could be subject to quite a severe impact at times. Your hard drive, especially, is sensitive to these blows, and has to have some protection from them. That is one of the functions of a laptop mount, normally associated with off-road vehicles.

Regardless, this is a function that all computer mounting systems should have, irrespective of whether the vehicle is driven off-road or on a freeway, and a universal mount should fit all makes of cars. What that refers to is the pedestal itself, and how it relates to the geometry of your car. An SUV, for example, usually has a large console between the driver and passenger that contains such accessories as a drinks holder. This has to be accessible and the laptop mounting system has to be designed so that it is. It also has to allow access to all the other accessories and controls, such as floor or console mounted stick shifts (most European cars have them), radios and heating controls that can often be towards the passenger side of the car.

It is not difficult to engineer this for any specific car, but it takes careful design to fashion the mount so as to fit all cars. Pro-Desks for example, do this with their Navigator car desk mount by designing adjustments into the pedestal and desk top to allow various heights, orientations and angles to be used for maximum visibility and accessibility from practically all cars. All that varies is the solid steel mounting plate that is specified when you order, but can be changed when you change your car.

There are many other such laptop desks to be found online, although you have to study the websites closely and make sure that what you are considering meets your needs exactly. Many do not offer separate plates and mounts, but just a single unit that bolts into the floor once the necessary bolt holes have been drilled. Try to avoid that if you can because you have make sure that you rust-proof the bare metal after drilling, and that the protection is not removed when the bolts are inserted. It only takes a small spot of bare metal to start the corrosion process as anybody that has had a bonnet chip knows!

Car Laptop mounts are changing mobile offices, and it will not be long before this is the norm. There was a time when mobile phones were only for executives, and then they graduated to sales representatives, and now to everybody. The same will be true of instant computer access, initially through laptops, and the laptop car mount will become the essential accessory that the mobile charger and DVD player is now.

Before you purchase a Laptop Car Mounts be sure to view the Navigator Laptop Mount at Pro-Desks.

Advantages Of Using A Notebook

Notebook or laptop computer is a portable computer that can be easily carried around, and is capable of performing all possible functions of a computer. Notebook, that usually weighs around 2.2 to about 18 pounds, comes in various sizes and varied possible features.

Unlike most other electronic goods, learning how to use a notebook is no big deal. People, who are used to working on computers, find notebooks almost as convenient to use as they have been using it already. However, the touchpad or the trackpads (that are used in place of the mouse), or the pointing sticks might pose slight difficulty for the beginners, though they can conveniently attach a mouse externally. Nevertheless, the fact that notebooks bear such great resemblance to computers surely serves as a great advantage to the users.

These days notebook can also read as well as write CDs and DVDs. They are also capable of copying and transferring data using Bluetooth devices. Most of the times, these are built in the notebooks, though one may need to attach them externally if the features have not been already provided beforehand. Pen drives, etc, can also be used on notebooks for exchanging data. Notebooks also allow the benefits of using internet connection after proper configuration has been done. Microphones and web cameras can also be used with the notebooks these days.

These days there are various kinds of notebooks that are available in the market. These can be broadly classified as Ultra-Mobile PCs (or the UMPCs), the desktop replacement computers and the ultraportables. While the Ultra-Mobile PCs are laptops that can be easily carried around owing to their extra small size, the powerful desktop replacement computers are mostly to be used in a fixed place. They are more bulky and weigh more as compared to the expensive ultraportables that are specifically meant for those business travelers who need small as well as light weight notebooks that can be easily carried around, while traveling around.

Notebooks are especially useful to those who have to work on computers for long hours, or are heavily depended on computers for their work. Though notebooks may not be as powerful as computers tend to be for the same price range, they are capable of performing all the functions that any computer would perform. There are a number of varieties one can choose from and the special features, included in each notebook, vary from one model to another. Much it depends on the price range and the manufacturer.

The main source of power for a notebook is its main battery, and the external adapter, that is used for charging the battery, from time to time. This allows the user to work on his or her laptop for hours together, without having to connect it with any wires, till the battery exhausts. The time taken for charging the battery varies from one notebook to another, though usually it does not take more than a few hours to charge them.

With each passing day, and new developments in technology, notebooks are becoming more and more popular among the people all over the world. Though these were initially meant for the business class, who had grown dependent on their computers, these days notebooks are being used by almost anybody and everybody.

The falling prices, reducing sizes and growing features are surely making notebooks one of the most sought after electronic devices of the new millennium. Hence in today`s world having a notebook has become a necessity, no one can stay without one. After all who can deny the luxury/necessity of owing a notebook in today`s world?!

Used Computers (Desktops/Laptops)- What To Look For?

Nowadays desktops and laptops are much more durable and dependable that they were just five years ago. Therefore, buying a used or refurbished computer is becoming more of a trend.

Suppliers replace their computers on average every 6 months and companies frequently upgrade their equipment. Buying one of these used or refurbished computers can save you a lot of money while still using a quite up to date technology. This is even more relevant if you are not a heavy user (i.e. most of your time on a computer is spent online, you may use a few standard applications once in a while). Even modestly priced computers will more than suffice for these types of demand.

Thinking about buying a used or refurbished desktop or laptop?

Buying a computer is not at all an easy job, one has look get detailed information of the available computers of good and reputed brands. One must take into consideration the size, color, configurations, features etc... While your computer should correspond to your personality and lifestyle, you should always keep in mind the reputation of the brand in the market. Brand counts a lot; you can render good service by the manufacturer if your computer is damaged.

Important handy Tips before buying a computer...

* Verify if the brand is reputed and always buy a good reputed brand. Read about customer service experience for that specific computer issues.

* Check the warranty/guarantee of the computer (seek out computers which still have warranty/guarantee remaining)

* Compare the price of the new model in the market with what price your buying your used computer, try to get the best bargain. i.e. a two year old computer should not be bought for more than half of its original price.

* Check if the computer is outdated (if out of production it is difficult to get spare parts)

* Is the operating system current (Windows Vista/Windows Xp). Earlier versions probably run slower (windows 2000) and would not be advisable unless your needs are limited (i.e. web surfing, Word...). In any event, stay away with computers running on Windows 98 (granted you don't find many anymore). Also be aware of Windows Vista. Many users are reverting back to XP and that is even more obvious in the corporate world. Why? Vista looks nice but doesn't bring many technical improvements; therefore IT managers are not willing to implement something new when what they have works just fine. Some domestic users just don't like the new way of navigation within the Vista Operating System.

* Check if the configuration of the computer you are buying is good.

* Check the speed of the processor. If possible start the computer and see how long it takes to fully turn on. If its slow just turning on, imagine the lack of speed once you start adding software..

Additional Tips for laptops

* Is the battery life good? (search for the computers with a very good battery backup).

* Check for the screen size of the computer your buying and see to it that it is not exceeding the Normal (normally the screen size should be between 15-17). Less than that generally translates in older computers and increases the chance of age failure. Once the screen breaks, you are often better of changing the whole computer.

* Review the connectivity of the computer (Network, USB, Video, Audio...) look to it that it has a good connectivity including wireless.

* Check out the weight. Ensure the computer is light enough for you to carry.

* More details at http://www.bestlaptopsreviews.com/index.php/Used-Notebooks.html

Where to buy used computers:

* Online auctions. Pro: Often offer the best prices. Cons: Cannot validate the accuracy of the described item. No warranty. Tip 1: Some companies will offer warranty for up to two years, the cost is about 12% to 18% of the purchase price. Tip2: Buy from sellers with great feedback, do not hesitate to contact the seller with questions prior to bidding.

* Online marketplaces: Pro: Set prices and quantities - Sometime warranty is available. Cons: Prices can vary a lot, do your homework.

* http://Craiglist.com Contacting sellers on http://Craiglist.com in your local area gives you a chance to meet with the owner and physically test the computer before the purchase

Where to buy refurbished computers:

Refurbished computers can be a great way to buy as they have warranties and are generally sold by manufacturers or companies affiliated with them.

* Manufacturers websites will tell you how to buy directly from them or from their authorized sellers. Pros: Warranty, established companies. Cons: Prices are higher than regular auctions (you pay more for peace of mind)

Buying a used or refurbished computer can be a great way to save money. If you use some of the advice discussed above you can avoid many pitfalls. One last thing concerning laptops, make sure you have a good bag to protect your computer from a fatal accident. Your bag should be big enough for a 17 inch screen computer as it is rapidly becoming the norm, you will probably change your computer within a few years, the bag you may keep a lot longer.

Good Buy!

Lithium Batteries - Tips to Make Your Laptop Lasts Longer

The basic makeup of each battery type is very similar. Each has a positive electrode (cathode), a negative electrode (anode), a separator and an electrolyte. However, the chemistry in each is different. The differences offer various levels of performance.

Much of our newest technologies demand much more power than its predecessors. The features and sophistication of the newer electronics have truly increased the power demanded from batteries. It is this power demand that motivated the industry to develop power sources to keep up.

A lithium is different from an alkaline.

Both the chemistry and construction of lithium and alkaline differ. It is the lithium design that helps this newer power source meet the high drains of many of today's devices.

These new and powerful batteries are used in various portable electronic devices, and are widely used as a mobile laptop computer power source.

Here are some tips to make your laptop power source last longer:

Heat Kills!

Heat truly decreases the life span of lithium batteries. You may notice that if you use your laptop as a replacement for a desktop, the battery capacity decreases greatly. Some measure the decrease at 60% to 80% of the original capacity after about a year.

If you use your laptop as a desktop, you should remove the battery while using the plug-in power source. And before storing your laptop battery, you may want to first check with the manufacture on the effects of moisture and dust in the casing.

Correct Storage

If you don't plan on using your lithium batteries for a while, you may want to put them in your refrigerator - not the freezer!

Ideally, you should store at a 40% charge level. At 100%, you may have unnecessary stress and internal corrosion. But if the charge is too low, the battery can eventually become unusable because it will self discharge.

Calibrating Helps

Most manufacturers agree that there is some benefit to completely discharging your lithium batteries periodically, especially for your laptop. If you completely drain the laptop cell, it will help to recalibrate which will allow for more accurate measure of the life span.

You should try this every 30 charges or when you notice readings are off.

Calibration does not extend the discharge time - it only resets it to show the remaining charge accurately.

Memory is not what it once was ...

When I got my first cell phone, I was told to let it completely die before recharging. This idea is that of memory. This process of completely discharging before recharging to the max, would supposedly give my phone the complete battery capacity.

If I recharged with 50% capacity already, the battery would assign the half way point as the empty point, and cut the capacity in half.

But this does not apply to lithium cells - only for nickel based. In truth, fully discharging your lithium battery often can be harmful to its battery's health, possibly making it completely unusable if levels go too low.

The modern lithium has a safety circuit to make sure it doesn't reach the point of no return. The safety circuit isn't guaranteed. If you leave it completely drained for a few days, the safety circuit probably won't save it.

Laptop Batteries : How To Make It Work Even Longer.

There are certain things to note when you are using your notebook on batteries.
Especially when it comes to using notebook on batteries, I believe notebook users alike are having the same problem of fast battery consumption (myself included). I̢۪ve been tweaking around lately and I think I should write this post to share with those who might be having the same problem like me and most importantly how to overcome it. There are 10 things to note for you to maximize your notebook battery usage.

1) Regular Defragmentation - Defragmentation is like arranging your files in order.

Example: When you go to a library, the book that you are searching for will be a bit faster if it is arranged from the A to Z alphabetical order and in their numbering code system. This way you will also save time and energy to search for the book.

The same principal also applies to the notebook. Regular the defragmentation process will result in less time and energy (battery usage) used by the notebook computer system. This will eventually lead to a longer battery life.

2) Lower Contrast - A dimmer screen means less battery usage used by the notebook LCD.

3) Use Programs Only When Necessary - We tend to use and open programs files which we sometimes may not need to access so frequently. Stop or exit running programs and applications like Messenger and Skype if you are not using them at that particular time. Most of the quick launch programs that appear that the bottom right hand of the screen are background running services which will use battery energy. Multitasking of programs will eventually lead to a fast consumption of battery usage.

4) Minimize Usage Of External Devices - USB thumbdrives, portable hard disks and any notebook peripheral connected to the USB/1394/Firewire ports will take up battery power. Less usage of these devices means conservation of energy to your notebook̢۪s battery.

5) Put More Physical RAM - By increasing your RAM, you can save CPU usage and hence save your battery energy. Some might argue the fact with an increase of RAM this will lead to more battery energy being transferred to the RAM. Well in the other hand I believe with added RAM, applications will run faster and the Virtual Memory is normally utilized by the CPU will take less battery power and will prevent you getting symptoms like â€Å“system hanging” which also simply input to both the user’s frustration and battery usage in energy.

6) Run From Hard Disks - Try creating a virtual drive from programs such as Nero, PowerISO or Alcohol 120%. By running these programs on a virtual platform, we minimized the usage of optical drives like the CD or DVD drive which take a lot of battery energy.

7) Battery Maintenance - Keep battery contacts clean on interval. Clean the contacts with rubbing alcohol after 2 to 3 months of usage. This will allow efficient battery energy to flow through the notebook. Remember also to use the notebook while on battery mode at least once every 2 to 3 weeks. This should refresh the batteries Li-Ion components from discharging effects. Keep them healthy by charging and discharging them to the fullest once in every 2 to 3 weeks.

8) Hibernation Mode - Hibernation mode is much more recommended than the Standby mode. Why? Hibernation will save your notebook settings from where you left off, and completely shut down the notebook thereafter. You can resume your work by just touching the â€Å“On/Off” power button.

9) Cooler Environment - We all know temperature is a major factor in PC computing especially when it comes to the notebook. With a cooler environment, cool air will make your notebook work more efficiently. That is why most internet cafes that are set up these days are air-conditioned.

10) Tweak Power Options - The Control Panel provides options for you to change the power settings. Via the Power Settings in the Control Panel, select the â€Å“Laptop battery mode” or â€Å“Low Power” to reduce energy usage.

If all of the above steps lead to a failure result, it̢۪s time for you to get a better notebook.

Inkjet Printer Cartridges Don't Have to Cost a Fortune

Inkjet printer cartridges are an important part of our everyday lives, especially if you run a business. If you have ever purchased one at your local computer or office supply store, you will probably agree that they're not cheap.

If you only buy inkjet printer cartridges for your printer at home which you just use every once in a while, you may not really care how much those inkjet cartridges cost since you probably buy them once every few months. However, if you run your own business or are in charge of your company's supply purchases you most likely notice that the costs add up rather quickly.

Inkjet printer cartridges are indeed some of the biggest expenses in office supplies. However, the good news is that you (your company) don't have to spend a fortune on them. You just need to know where to buy your printer cartridges.

Notwithstanding special sales and coupons, most "real world" computer or office supply stores charge you retail prices. Internet retailers, on the other hand, charge you a lot less. It's not uncommon to see inkjet printer cartridges sold at an internet site for 80% less than at your local stores. There are a couple of reasons for that.

Firstly, a "virtual" storefront is a lot simpler and less expensive to operate and maintain than a physical one. Therefore, internet merchants are able to pass on the savings to their customers. So, even the name brand inkjet printer cartridges are cheaper online than at your local store.

Secondly, online retailers also sell remanufactured inkjet printer cartridges. These are recycled cartridges without any name brand attached to them which have been reprocessed and tested. Don't be fooled into thinking that these inkjet cartridges are of inferior quality. Many users have reported that they work as well as, if not better, than the OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) counterparts. These remanufactured inkjet cartridges cost even less than the name brands.

As you can see, you can save a significant amount of money by purchasing your inkjet printer cartridges from online merchants. In addition, like the offline stores, online retailers also have special sales and coupons which means you can save even more.

It's also a good idea to stock up on a few inkjet printer cartridges at home even if you don't use your printer quite that often. You never know when you'll run out of ink, and you don't want that to happen while you're printing an important document. Besides, if you can save money on inkjet cartridges even for your personal use, why not?

Yes, of course, there are a few shady retailers (online and offline) that try to rip you off buy selling bad products, and you need to avoid them. However, if you've done your homework you will be able to shop for inkjet printer cartridges (or anything else) online with confidence and save plenty at the same time.

2 Hard Drives Data Recovery

Across the world, instances of data loss continue to rise, thus complicating the process of hard drive data recovery and making this a process of utmost importance. Sadly, there are two types of computer users in this world: those who understand the computer system because they respect the work it does for them and those who don't care to know the details as long as work gets done. Whether you belong to either of the categories, it is important to read this discussion because it would give you the confidence to deal with a major disaster relating to hard drive data loss.

As the storage space for IDE drives increased, the prices hit almost rock bottom following which the hard drive manufacturers explored ways to bring down the production costs of these mass storage mediums.

The end result is that more data is being stored in smaller spaces. Today's hard drives are competent to store about 500 times the data stored on the drives of computer hard drives systems two decades earlier. With such amazing increase in storage capacities, the issue of data loss is more critical.

The materials which these manufacturers used for coating the surface of the disks were naturally subject to this cost-cutting. No wonder, professionals who recover data are quick to point out the fact that inexpensive hard drives are most vulnerable to head crashes.

This is because small minded manufacturers who focus only on cutting costs use very bad quality, cheap materials which are naturally prone to develop head crashes.

Although you may be wondering why a "newbie" is being subjected to this intense discussion, remember that there are certain things you can do to tackle the post-data-loss scenario so here are some simple tips for a successful hard drive data recovery:

It is important to stop using a problem hard disk or storage media from which you want to recover data. Consider this as a rule of utmost importance because each time you attempt either to boot up or start a system, you are worsening every possibility of data recovery, literally. Work on the problem hard drive only after attaching it to another computer as a secondary/primary slave.

Be aware of the fact that even a harmless process like browsing, without saving any files of downloading can prove to be extremely hazardous ebcause your operating system writes and over-writes data to the hard disk, continuously. So this is again something to consider.

If you are trying to recover data on your own, the first thing you should clearly be aware of is not to disturb the problem hard disk. Data recovery software should not be loaded on the problem disk. What can be done without any hesitation is this: simply load the data recovery software on the good hard disk of the computer to which you have attached your problem hard disk as a primary/secondary slave.

After you have attached the problem hard disk, you can go on to create an image of the disk, using a disk imaging utility and work only on the image thus created. This would make sure that the data on the hard disk remains intact. This leaves you compltely free to check out any number of data recovery software on the image of the problem hard disk.

Sometimes, the problem of spindle motor sticking may have cropped up. Manually spinning the motor would free the drive, so this would permit it to spin long enough to save your files. This can be easily done by opening up case and spinning the platters in a manual way.

If you have the habit of repeatedly trying to boot up the hard drive, this may, on highly exceptional situations, resurrect a drive with a serious problems as this continual switching on and off is too hard on the other components as well. It is best to wait at least 2o seconds before going on to switch off and switch on.

With this discussion, you would be better prepared to handle hard drive data recovery than ever before, the Italians have tendencies to be more daring with their approach to faulty drives that they carry out their own "recupero dati" in a garage somewhere, prior to consulting anyone.. LAPTOP DATA RECOVERY

In our fast paced society, mobility has become essential in "keeping up".

With the costs of laptops becoming so much more affordable and performance parameters turning more competent, it has become essential for most people to have their own laptops. From individual users, to self employed professionals, laptops are a most preferred 'mobility' option.

Lost data may occur due to numerous other causes such as accidental files, partition deletion, user error, mechanical failures, reformatting, overwriting, software corruption that is logical, virus attacks, and environmental damage due to fire, floods, etc.

Data loss in most cases occurs suddenly. In fact, most laptop hard drives endure different abuse elements as compared to your standard 3.5" desktop hard drive. Laptop hard drives are more or less identical to your standard 3.5" desktop drives because of usage of same technology in terms of the internal mechanics of the drive. However, there is a tiny difference which is that all components are essentially smaller and compressed within it's smaller environment. With components ever so delicate and precise, this poses as added difficulty factors for data recovery engineers to tackle while handling the stringent guidelines for laptop data recovery.

Laptop users across the world have grown and continue to multiply with the ever changing and demanding work environments that are so characteristically competitive. The industry practices are thus aimed to enhance facilities for laptop data recovery using tools and resources needed to meet the laptop data recovery demands of tomorrow.

Regardless of the type of failure, there are many competent, highly experienced and well established laptop data recovery specialists who possess the know how in this delicate field of storage media recovery. For all Standard recoveries, there is a process that you are expected to follow from start till end. So let's understand the general process for laptop data recovery in detail.

First, your Laptop hard disk will go through an initial engineer diagnostic evaluation. The purpose of this thorough specialist evaluation is to accurately assess and determine specific media damage and/or logical issues. From this detailed assessment, the data recovery specialists would be able to provide a proper course of action for laptop data recovery.

After the evaluation process, the specialists would provide the customers with a firm and accurate price quotation. Once this report and price quotation is provided, customers will then be asked for their full authorization to allow our engineers to proceed with their laptop data recovery job. Once this quotation is approved by you, the specialists would begin your full laptop data recovery process and will contact you throughout this process as updates arise. But as the wise men say, prevention is better than cure. So if you have been fortunate not to suffer data loss on your laptop, here are some effective tips to prevent laptop data loss in future:

Make use of an external USB hard drive as means of maintaining a complete back-up of your system. You can either opt for those little flash USB drives as a way to back-up your critical files, or you can opt for external USB hard drives that hardly take up any room at all.

If you are attached to a network, it is best to request your IT department to request that your laptop should be added to a network back-up schedule. Believe it or not, you can use CDs or DVDs.

These are good as they can quickly back-up critical files and store those CDs to a safe place. All you must remember to do is maintain a weekly backup of your important files. If you opt to use CDs that are rewritable, then you can use the same one a couple of times. But don't overuse this as that could lead to problems.

With these tips, go ahead and have confidence that you are definitely on the right track. RAID Server data Recovery data recovery UK Recupero Dati

External Drives Data Recovery

A wide variety of failures can propel severe external or physical damage to drives and storage media. When the drive is physically damaged, a greater level of precaution needs to be exercised in order to ensure that the data is still recoverable. To clarify your understanding, external hard drive data recovery means the process of recovering data from external hard drives like USB or Fire wire when the data is neither lost nor inaccessible because of some reason or the other. External hard drive data recovery process comprises the same process followed while trying to recover some lost files. Let's take the example of the ICD-ROMs which may get damaged because their metallic substrate is scratched. Keep in mind that hard disks can suffer any of several mechanical failures, such as head crashes. There can be a case of failed motors so physical damage always causes at least some minimal case of data loss. Most physical damaged drives cannot be repaired by the end users. For example, opening a hard disk in a normal environment is a complete no-no because the dust would obviously settle on the surface. If that happens, that could worsen the damage caused to the platters and complicate the external drive data recovery process even further. The difficulty is that most users aren't experts nor do they have the hardware or technical expertise required to make these repairs. So it is best to opt for data recovery companies to do the job rather than make costlier mistakes that complicate data recovery processes further. Most professionals use Class 100 clean room facilities to protect the media while repairs are being made. How this is done is discussed herein.

The extracted raw image is used to reconstruct data that can be used after any repair of the logical damage is carried out. Once the repair is complete, the files may be in usable form although its actual recovery may turn out to be very incomplete. Some helpful examples of physical recovery procedures include removing a damaged PCB (printed circuit board) and replacing it with a matching PCB from a healthy drive. Other good examples comprise changing the original damaged read/write head assembly with matching parts from a healthy drive, removing the hard disk platters from the original damaged drive and installing them into a drive that works fine. As these procedures are technical in nature, it is best that these are taken care of by professionals and not by untrained persons. When the hard drive is physically damaged, remember that any additional access to the same drive would definitely corrupt data. This would make it much more difficult to get information back. Note that if the damaged drive happens to be the drive containing the operating system, don't consider trying to boot the drive. But for a desktop, there is less cause for worry as all you must do is disconnect the boot drive and replace it with a new drive. A tip for you is that do ensure the drive can accommodate the image of the current drive.

Next, an operating system can be easily installed on the new drive. You just need to reconnect the old drive or put it in an external case and connect via USB or FireWire. In creating a new primary drive, you would be able to run the disk imaging software from the new drive. This way, you would be able to prevent the need for any writing to the old drive. If your hard drive works in a RAID system, you need a service that specializes in RAID data recovery as it wont be a good idea to do it on your own. When a hard drive is prepared for its initial use, the drive is magnetized. This is done with a number of self-synchronizing magnetic bits. The purpose of this self-synchronizing structure is that, no matter where the hard disk is in its rotation cycle, the hard drive controller would be able to speedily touch down as to which of these bits represent no-man's land, which of these actually represent the drive's formatting, and which represent critical data. Various situation based examples were discussed to clarify your queries on external data drive recovery. So do utilize this informative discussion sometime when you come across data problems on your external hard drive.

Accurate Computer Time Using an NTP Server

Computers utilise real-time clock chips and crystal oscillators to maintain internal system time. However, due to the need to keep costs low, relatively cheap components are utilised. Therefore, computer systems are notoriously poor at maintaining accurate system time and can drift by many seconds each day. This article discuses various methods of maintaining precise time on computer systems and describes how to use Internet NTP servers as accurate timing references.

There are a number of commercially available hardware time references that utilise GPS or National radio time and frequency broadcasts to maintain accurate time on computers. These hardware clocks generally have serial or USB interfaces that provide regular time updates. Software drivers constantly reads precise timing information from the hardware timing reference in order to maintain accurate system time. More sophisticated software may be available that provides a software interface between the hardware clock and the NTP software distribution. This allows a PC to be configured as a precise stratum 1 NTP server.

GPS hardware clock systems have a number of advantages. They are generally highly accurate providing timing precision to within nanoseconds of UTC. The GPS system is also global, so that GPS hardware clocks can be utilised anywhere in the world. Radio based hardware clocks are generally less accurate and can only be received within the locality of the radio transmitter. However, they do have the advantage that generally a good signal can be received indoors close to the host computer. GPS clocks require an antenna with a good view of the sky, which can be impractical for many installations.

The Internet has developed precise timing algorithms to maintain accurate time on client computers. The Network Time Protocol (NTP) was developed over 25 years ago just to fulfil such a requirement and is now the dominant method of time synchronisation across a computer network. Many operating systems such as Microsoft Windows 2000, 2003, XP, LINUX, UNIX and Novell have adopted the NTP standard. There are a vast number of highly precise Internet NTP server systems that can be utilised free of charge to provide accurate computer time synchronisation.

Microsoft Windows 2000 and 2003 server operating systems provide a pre-installed SNTP (Simple Network Time Protocol) client that can synchronise to any NTP server. The Windows 2000/2003 Server SNTP time client is called 'Windows Time'; it runs in the service list and is configured by editing registry entries. Windows XP also has an integrated SNTP client that is configured from the 'Time Properties' applet in the control panel.

LINUX has developed much more complex timing algorithms in order to maintain highly accurate time. NTP was originally developed for the LINUX operating system and provides complex timing algorithms to provide a highly precise timing solution. The NTP software distribution is freely available and downloaded under the GNU public licence. Configuring NTP to utilise an external hardware reference clock provides a local stratum 1 NTP server for use on an intranet.

The SNTP protocol was developed to provide a means of time synchronisation without many of the complex algorithms utilised by NTP. SNTP provides less accuracy, but most of the functionality of the NTP protocol. Microsoft adopted the SNTP protocol for use with its Windows 2000 and 2003 server operating systems. SNTP allows a client to synchronise to a NTP server but with some loss of precision.

To summarise, NTP and SNTP protocols are the standard means of time dissemination around the Internet and computer networks. Client PC's can ensure that their system time never varies by more than a few milliseconds. GPS and radio hardware clocks can provide accurate synchronisation of computer systems that have no access to the Internet or to provide a Stratum 1 NTP Server resource.

Notebook Purchase Review

In the early nineties few people could image the impact that notebook would have in the computer industry. Its unique portability made the notebook a product in a class by itself. Soon, it became a must-have product, to those who were constantly moving from office, home or school. Nowadays, it is one of the best selling computer hardware items of all times.

With a Notebook, you can carry your work around conveniently, without having to worry about the myriads of wires, hardware and space needed to keep a desktop. Also, you can choose whether to work from office or home. A Notebook is really handy in any situation.

Portability and mobility are the great advantages of having a Notebook, or laptop. In your Internet search prior to buying a Notebook, you will be presented with a great variety and quantity of information. This can be quite bewildering, so you have to know what features you need in a Notebook.

Upgradabeality is an important consideration: the Notebook you choose now may be the one best suited to your current needs; but in future, you may find it necessary to upgrade it. You will not want to invest valuable time and money in purchasing a Notebook which you will have to discard or sell off in the near future, because of what you might feel as the inadequacy of your current one. When you consider upgradabeality, you have to think of memory or RAM, and hard disk space.

The CPU, or Processor, is the engine which will drive your Notebook`s performance. So you should choose the fastest CPU that is available, depending on your budget and on what you will be using the Notebook for. Tasks like word processing, emailing and surfing the Net do not require a fast CPU. But using CPU intensive applications, such as processing spreadsheets or playing games will work better with a fast CPU.

The RAM, or memory is another important feature, and the more memory you have, the better. Your Notebook`s performance will be greatly affected if you do not have sufficient memory. The minimum recommended these days is 1 Gigabyte of memory. Some experts recommend a minimum of 2 Gigabytes. The more memory you have, the better the performance and multitasking you can expect from your Notebook.

The speed and capacity of the hard disk of your Notebook are important, for this is where you will install all your software and your data (documents, database, photos etc). Make sure that you have enough room to store all your information which can be readily accessed. 40 Gigabytes of hard disk space is considered the minimum these days. Consider getting a Notebook with 80 Gigabytes of disk space.

Do note that Apple Notebooks are now using Intel processors, which means that if you have a hard disk with sufficient disk space, you can partition your disk drive and install both Apple Mac software and Windows software, and switch between the two.

You also have to consider the screen of your Notebook, for this is what you are going to be staring at, and you have to be happy with its resolution and size. You will want a crisp, bright screen with good viewing, especially for photos. You can go and look at different screens at a local electronics store, and try to figure out which size and resolution you like best. Just be sure that the screen is an Active Matrix one and not Passive Matrix.

The other features you will be looking at to connect to your Notebook are external devices such as a mouse, printer, portable disk drive, scanner etc. Good luck!
